4 Quick Tips For a Killer Easter Sermon
Are you ready for Easter?
Easter services are typically one of the highest attended church services of the year. The crowd will be bigger than normal. There will be more visitors than normal. For some people, this may be the only chance they give the church.
The pressure is on to preach a home-run Easter sermon.
Fear not. Here are some quick tips that will help.
1. Remember: Easter is good news!
You are delivering good news. Preach like it.
I will never understand how pastors can preach the good news of Jesus with a lifeless expression on their face.
This is the greatest news of all time! Jesus conquered Satan, sin, and death to save us! How can you bore even yourself with a sermon about the biggest moment in history?
People should feel the joy of salvation through your words and body language on stage. If you are not feeling that excitement or joy, it’s time for some serious reflection on why that it is.
Do whatever you need to do to recapture your passion for Christ.
2. Speak to the unbelievers in the room
Easter services are typically one of the highest attended services of the year. If you and your people have done your duty to invite people, there are bound to be unbelievers in the room.
Don’t ignore them. Let them know you are glad they are here.
Write your message with them in mind. Imagine that you are sitting across a table from an unbelieving neighbor. Write your message to them.
What terminology do they need to have explained? What objections might they have? Why should Easter matter to them?
3. Preach the Gospel as clear as possible
Don’t get bogged down in the details and complexity of soteriology. There is a time and place for that, but Easter is not it.
Explain the Gospel as clear and straightforward as you know how. Use a visual illustration, picture, or video to help.
It may help to think about the way you would explain it to a child. Do not assume any prior knowledge of the Bible or Christian tradition.
This message is too important to allow for any miscommunication.
4. Share a testimony
Don’t just tell them about the benefits of a new life in Christ, show it. Tell your personal story, or share another person’s story.
Even better, record a video of a real person from your church sharing their story of how Jesus has radically changed their life.
Stories capture our attention, our imagination, and our emotions.
It’s easy to deny a person’s argument; it’s much harder to deny a person’s experience.
Praying that God uses you all in a powerful way to preach the Easter sermon of your life.
