Personal Update: I Just Had a Baby!

If you haven’t noticed over the last week, the content on this site has been a little less than usual. That’s because things have been way crazy for me and my family.

My wife and I were expecting our second child to come mid March. But then we went to the Doctor last Tuesday for a checkup…

My wife had been on bed rest for the last couple weeks to monitor her pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure caused by pregnancy). The doctor took one look at my wife, checked her blood pressure, looked at us and said “We are having the baby today!”

What?! After a moment of shock and a few questions, we were rushed upstairs for an emergency C-Section!

My wife is doing good now, but my son’s lungs were not quite fully developed since he was delivered 5 weeks premature. He was born only weighing 4.4 pounds. He is still in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) being constantly monitored.

He is making a little bit of progress every day, with an occasional setback, and we don’t know how long he will be in the NICU. As you might imagine, seeing my boy hooked up to more tubes and machines than he has body mass is absolutely heart breaking.

The good news is that I got to hold him for the first time yesterday – 7 days after his birth. I have never seen a baby so tiny and fragile. It was absolutely amazing to hold my boy.

Long story short, if I have seemed a little absent from the blog this week, it’s because I have been. This week has been insane.

I have been sleeping half of the time on a hospital couch, balancing visiting my wife and son and taking care of my 3-year-old daughter. I also had a guest speaking engagement this last weekend preaching 3 messages Friday-Sunday.

Wow. I’m exhausted. But in all the craziness and fear for my little guy, one thing I have been reminded of this week is just how amazing God is.

Even in the midst of crazy life circumstances and health complications, God is faithful. He has continued to provide for me and my family in more ways than I could imagine.

I have a deep comfort and peace just resting in Him – trusting that He will answer the many prayers for my son to get healthy soon.

If you read this far, thanks for listening to me unload a little about my personal life. I would definitely welcome any prayers for my boy.

Now back to the regular content.
